Discover Our Story
Beatrice Morounranti Modupeola Abebi, affectionately known as Mama, was born on July 27, 1932, into the Adebo family of Aperin, Ibadan. She attended St. John’s Anglican Primary School in Idi Ose, Ibadan, and later Ife Grammar School in Ile-Ife.
After working at Leventis Departmental Store in Dugbe, Ibadan, Mama built a successful business and traveled across Nigeria before relocating to the United States in 1990.
But what defined Mama most was her generosity. She welcomed people into her home, cared for and helped raise many children, and made everyone feel they belonged. Her love lives on through generations of family and friends, and through the communities this Foundation seeks to serve.
My grandmother, Beatrice Olurantimi Are, affectionately known as Mama, was a provider, a teacher, a guide, and one of my greatest sources of strength.
Mama made generosity part of everyday life. Her home welcomed people unconditionally, and giving was simply part of who she was. I wanted to honor her in a way that reflected not only what she meant to our family, but also how deeply she cared for her community.
In 2024, we began by providing food assistance to more than 100 people, bringing neighbors together for Christmas at her compound. In 2025, we expanded our reach by distributing more than 200 food packages, hosting another community Christmas gathering, and awarding five scholarships totaling $3,000 with the help of an additional sponsor. Alongside these community events, we also dedicated $2,000 in additional holiday giving to families in need across those two years.
What began as an act of remembrance has grown into a steadfast commitment to nourish lives, expand opportunities, and sustain Mama’s legacy across generations.
As we establish the Foundation’s charitable programs, I invite you to help carry her generosity forward — one meal, one opportunity, and one life at a time.
